Spending time with others who have lost loved ones to suicide can be a source of great comfort and support. Here are the details for groups that may be of help to you.
If you have lost a child or sibling to suicide
The Compassionate Friends, the international support group for parents who have lost a child or sibling, runs a Suicide Support group in Johannesburg. The group consists only of parents or siblings who have lost their loved ones to suicide. There is therefore a great deal of understanding and comfort amongst the group members. The meeting dates for 2020 are as follows:
- 28 March
- 30 May
- 25 July
- 26 September
- 28 November
All meetings take place at The Compassionate Friends' head office, 22 Athol Street, Highlands North, Sandton at 14:00.
If you have lost a loved one

When and where: At the Soul Café on the SECOND SATURDAY of each month, from 2 to 4 pm.

Cape Town
A regular suicide support group, SOS Western Cape, will be held from 19h00 to 20h30 at St Vincent's Hospital, Vincent Palotti, Pinelands, Cape Town, hosted by Dr Carla Freeman, a psychiatrist who has lost her brother to suicide.
